Tomorrow is the day that Stacey's official half marathon training schedule begins. It feels like Christmas eve. Only instead of hanging up stockings and putting out milk and cookies for Santa, she is putting out compression socks, running shoes, and charging her running watch. If you know Rachel at all you know you can probably safely assume that Rachel will not follow a training schedule and just wing the whole thing.
It is starting to feel real that we will soon be adventuring down as far south as we will ever go to run a half marathon! We have been sending texts back and forth about fundraising ideas, gortex running shoes, and wool compression socks for the past few weeks, but the official start to the training schedule makes it feel so much closer.
While we have been busy texting and laying out running clothes, the students at Open Doors have been busy participating in sports. They just hosted a very successful Jos Special Olympics competition. They had athletes from three schools/centres in Jos come out and participate. Rachel and Stacey were both there for one of these competitions when they were volunteering at Open Doors. The joy on the students faces as they ran, jumped, and received medals is indescribable. See it for yourself by checking out some more pictures from the event on Open Door's Facebook page by clicking....
